Can You Find All the Damage Done to Your Property?

If your home or business premises has suffered fire or flooding, the chances are you can see plenty of damage at a glance. When you come to make an insurance claim, you’ll be asked to list the damage, and closer inspection may find a little more. But is that really all?

Unfortunately, it may not be. Fire or flooding can leave invisible mould, damaged insulation or electrical hotspots inside your walls. It won’t stay invisible, though. It could take several years, but sooner or later it will start to cause you trouble.

The problem is that, by this time, you won’t be able to claim for it on your insurance policy, even if it’s been caused by the original incident. The insurer’s Loss Adjuster will simply tell you the claim has already been settled, and it’s down to you to pay for these repairs.

Finding the Hidden Damage Early

Fortunately, there’s a simple way of avoiding all this — Thermography. A non-invasive thermal imaging technique, its uses range from helping firefighters to diagnosing cancer, but it’s also invaluable when making an insurance claim.

A thermographic scan before you hand the Loss Adjuster your claim will show up all that hidden damage — the hotspots that could become fire risks, the mould that could undermine the building’s structure, or the damaged insulation that will let in cold and damp. It can all be included in your original claim and be sorted out at the insurer’s expense, not yours.

Thermography is 100% safe. Unlike some scanning techniques, such as X-rays, it doesn’t involve any radiation being fired at your property, let alone at you or your family. Instead, it passively reads the heat signals present in everything and builds up a thorough picture of the things you can’t see. It’s no different from taking a photo — it just reads heat instead of light.

It’s not always easy to arrange a thermography scan, but at Allied Claims we offer it as a service to all our clients. If your property has suffered fire or flooding, it could avoid both trouble and expense down the line. Why not give us a call to find out more?
